The Arab Centre for Strategic Studies

The Arab Centre for Strategic Studies was inaugurated on April 3rd., 1995 in Damascus. It was the realisation of intellectual efforts, debates and deliberation over a span of three years during which President Ali Nasser Muhammad met with a host of intellectuals, researchers in various fields, and political leaders inclined to perceive appropriate decisions founded on exact knowledge. The Centre looks forward to establishing a relationship of balance between the political and the intellectual elite through which all may share reciprocal enlightenment which purpose shall be the advancement of Arab issues in such a manner as to ensure compatibility with the spirit and the sweeping changes of time. Ali Nasser Muhammad draws in this collective enterprise on both, his long practical experience in political life in Yemen at the highest level, and his intimate knowledge e of the current conditions in the Arab world, and the ways and means necessary for its development and progress.

Future Horizons
.

The inauguration of the Arab Centre for Strategic Studies in Damascus is only the beginning of a wider project to give ACSS its real national character. President Ali Nasser Muhammad hopes, together with all researchers and scholars that work with him, hope to open local branches in most Arab countries. This would facilitate, practically, examining local issues that, in the end, can be combined to form one grand research project in which all studies, regional and national, are integrated. This may seem, for the first sight, an over- estimated undertaking but, hopefully, with efforts well co-ordinated, recruited and managed, with work going on relentlessly, and with willing to accomplish and benefit, these goals would be, after all, plausible even if took years to come.

-Problems of water, environment and desertation in the Arab World.
-Problems of the Arab family: Motherhood and children.
-Women's issues and problems in the Arab World.
-The role of Women throughout Arab history.
-Population and morphological issues.
-Youth: Education, unemployment, and looking for a horizon.
-Importation of technology.
-The Arab City: Organisation, pollution, and other issues.
-Resources of energy in the Arab World. and their effect on economic development
-The Yemeni Heritage and particularity of the Yemeni culture.
